Executive Summary：
Dr. Laura Wu is an Associate Professor of Neurology at the University of Texas Medical Branch, where she serves as the Chief of the Movement Disorders Division and Associate Director of the Neurology Clerkship Program. In 2024, she was endowed with the esteemed Warmoth Professorship in Neurology, recognizing her contributions to the field.
Dr. Wu earned her medical degree from China Medical University in Taiwan and her PhD from Chang-Gung University. After moving to the United States, she completed her residency training at Stony Brook University Medical Center and fellowship in movement disorders at Baylor College of Medicine with Dr. Joseph Jankovic.
Her primary clinical interests lie in diagnosing and treating patients with movement disorders, such as Parkinson’s disease, essential tremor, and dystonia. Since joining UTMB in 2016, she has established a Deep Brain Stimulation team, recruiting a diverse team of expert neurologists, neurosurgeons, and neuropsychiatrists to provide cutting-edge surgical treatment to patients with Parkinson’s disease and essential tremors.
In addition to her clinical expertise, Dr. Wu is actively engaged in research and education. Her research interests lie in better understanding neurodegenerative disorders and DBS therapies for movement disorders. Furthermore, as the Associate Director of the Neurology Clerkship Program, Dr. Wu finds that teaching and training the future generation of neurologists is extremely rewarding. Outside of the hospital, she enjoys traveling, cooking, and testing out different cuisines.
